Michael Hunt has had a very distinguished career as a director of both plays and operas. His productions are renowned for their vitality, visual elegance and dramatic insight. He was the first to direct an opera in the Royal Albert Hall and has created productions for many theatres and opera houses, including Scottish Opera, English National Opera, Opera North, Opera Ireland, Wexford Opera Festival, Cheltenham Everyman Theatre, Portland Opera and the Bilbao and Las Palmas Festivals. For 12 years he was artistic director of the touring opera company Co-Opera in Ireland, the repertoire of which also included many of his productions. They toured extensively in Ireland, Great Britain, France and the Faroe Islands. He was nominated 5 times for the title of Best Director in Ireland. In Perm he is known for his production of Beethoven’s opera Fidelio performed in the former camp for political prisoners Perm 36. This production received the title of Best Musical Event from Musical Review in Moscow. He was recently awarded the Perm State Prize for Culture.
